A Traveler's Guide to Jaipur

The city is popularly known by the name of pink city the largest city in the state of Rajasthan. Jaipur was founded by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II on 18 November 1727. The credit of being first planned city of the nation goes to the pink city. The city is parted in to six major parts or sectors separated by wide roads which are 34 meters wide. The city is one of the most popular destinations in India amongst the tourists. Vidyadhar Bhattacharya was the chief architect and planner of the city chosen by the king after rejecting several experts on the subject.

Amber Fort:
By Raja Man Singh built in 16th century, Amber Fort is the true reflection of the typical life style of the royal Rajputs. Located on the top of a hill this is one of the best fort found on hill-top in India. The mighty gates and the decorated walls palaces inside the fort, temples, and gardens are real beauty to see. There is a ramp that takes you to the top and beautifully decorated elephants take to the top walking on the ramp.

Hawa Mahal:
The palace of winds is the translation of the words "Hawa Mahal" is the land mark of the city. It is a delicate looking magical structure that seems like it may blow with the wind any time despite being a structure of towering height and width and length. Contructed by Raja Sawai Pratap Singh the Hawa Mahal was designed by Lalchand in 1799. The total number of small windows and lattices casements is 953 the Palace has five stories. The whole idea behind the construction of this building is quite puzzling.

Visiting hours:
1000-1630 Hrs. Free on Monday and closed on Friday, Still & Video Cameras are allowed after the payment charged on the entrance.

Jantar Mantar of Jaipur:
The whole idea behind the massive project is of Jai Sing the word meaning of Jantar Mantar is instrument that measures the harmony of the Heavens the construction has mixed use of stone and marble. There are 17 different instrument that calculate different movements of the sun and the moon, jai Singh used to use the thing on a daily basis with his seniors Pandit Jagannath and Kewal Ram. Visiting Hours: 0930-1630 Hrs.

The hub of arts and crafts Jaipur has some exclusive collection of crafts types, like; Kinari, Gota, Zardozi, Tarkashi, Block printing, Zari, Ivory carving, Miniature paintings, Blue Pottery and Meenakari.

Jaipur is also known for its performing arts. Like Kathak is a notable example whichis a classical dance form of north India, Tamasha and Puppet show are really enjoyable and these arts have to be preserved also.

Gardens:
Ram Niwas Garden, Sisodia Rani Garden and Palace Vidyadhar Garden, Kanak Vrindavan, Central Park, Jawahar and Circle Garden are the major parks and gardens of Jaipur.
