Your trip is an expensive investment that is worth protecting. You have put a lot of your hard earned money into your trip and now you should to protect it. All the major purchases in your life are insured against loss, and your travel plans should be no different. Things change unexpectedly, and you don't want to have to pay for a trip that you are unable to make. More and more airlines are issuing non-refundable tickets these days to protect themselves from fraud and profit loss. This makes things more difficult for passengers. Travel insurance ensures that even if something unexpected happens you will be protected.
A full range of insurance options are offered, including cancellation insurance, medical coverage, baggage theft/loss insurance, flight accident insurance, and even emergency evacuation insurance. A travel insurance plan can be constructed to meet your specific needs, whether you are on a vacation, a business trip, a religious trip, a sightseeing trip, or anything in between.
Here are the general coverage options**:
- Trip Cost: Trip Cancellation. This allows you to recover the cost of your trip if you have to cancel for a covered reason.
- 150% of Trip Cost: Trip Interruption. This covers you in the case that you have to interrupt your trip because of a covered reason.
- $750 Trip Interruption Return Air Only. This covers any additional expenses that the airline will charge you for changing your return flight data.
- $750: Trip Delay. If your trip is delayed for more than 5 hours due to covered reasons this coverage will allow you to be reimbursed up to $150 a day for reasonable additional expenses for meals, taxi fares, accommodations, and essential phone calls.
- $250 Missed Connection. If inclement weather or common carrier issues cause a cancellation or delay of your scheduled flight of three or more hours this coverage will reimburse you
- $1,000 Baggage and Personal Effects. If your luggage is lost, stolen, or damaged during your trip this coverage will reimburse you up to $1,000.
- $300 Baggage Delay. If your baggage is delayed for more than 12 hours you may be reimbursed up to $300 for the purchase of necessary personal items.
- $25,000 Medical. This coverage pays up to $25,000 towards medical expenses incurred during your trip.
- $500,000 Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation of Remains. This coverage will pay up to $500,000 towards the evacuation and transportation to the nearest adequate medical facility, as directed by a Physician. In the case of death this coverage pays for the transportation of the remains home.
- $10,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment. This coverage pays up to $10,000 towards expenses related to a loss of life or limb that is related to an accident that occurred during your trip within one year after the trip.
- Flight Guard: This coverage pays up to $500,000 for accidental death or dismemberment that occurs while flying.
- $35,000 Car Rental Collision Coverage. This coverage offers up to $35,000 of primary coverage towards damage to a rental car due to covered reasons.
- Medical Coverage Upgrade. This doubles your Medical and Emergency Evacuation benefits.
- Cancel For Any Reason. The insurer will reimburse 50% of pre-paid nonrefundable expenses if you cancel your trip for any reason up to 48 hours prior to your departure. (This can only be purchased at the time the base plan is purchased and within 15 days of the initial trip payment. Coverage must be purchased for the full cost of all prepaid nonrefundable trip arrangements.)

Answer: The cost of travel insurance is based, in most cases, on the value of the trip and the age of the traveler. Typically, the cost is five to seven percent of the trip cost.*

Answer: Many retail insurance programs include financial default coverage if the program is purchased within 15 days of making the initial trip deposit.*
