A Traveler's Guide to Fullerton

Fullerton is a city that is located in the southern coastal region of the US state of California. It is located in Orange County and is one of the largest cities in the county. English is the primary language of Fullerton, although there are many diverse ethnicities present in the city.

The city gets its name from George H. Fullerton, who first purchased the land back in 1887. As with many of its neighboring cities, Fullerton was originally an agricultural area, with very successful crops of oranges and other citrus products. Petroleum and oil were discovered nearby in the early 20th century which led to an increase in population and revenue as well as businesses relocating to the area. Today it is most well known as the home of California State University at Fullerton (CSUF).

Most of Orange County has a Mediterranean climate, including Fullerton. This is due primarily to the city's location near the ocean. The Mediterranean climate means that temperatures are relatively mild year round in Fullerton. Summer temperatures rarely exceed the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures rarely dip into the 40's. Humidity is fairly low year round which helps add to the pleasant weather climate. Rainfall is scarce in the summer months but the region receives a significant amount of rain during the months of January through March.

Cal State Fullerton competes in over 15 men's and women's sports. Their baseball team is especially successful. The university is the second largest in the state of California by enrollment.

Fullerton is a music hotbed. Several prominent musicians either grew up in Fullerton or got their musical start there. Musicians such as Gwen Stefani, The Offspring, and Lit all have ties to the Fullerton area.

The closest major airport to the Fullerton area is Orange County John Wayne International Airport. There are several other airports in the area however, including Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario, and Los Angeles International Airport, all of which are within driving distance of Fullerton.
