Air France: the choice of the classy clan
Air France styled as AIRFRANCE is the French national air carrier. It has its headquarters at theTremblay en France. It is a subsidiary unit of Air France KLM group and is also the founding member of the SkyTeam global Airline alliance. They fly to more than 36 different places and offer cargo as well passenger services to as many as 168 destinations spanning across 78 countries (the toll is actually more than 93 when it comes to overseas departments and territories of France). They are known to carry more than four crore passengers in any given year. Their hub is located at Charles De Gaulle airport with Orly airport being their domestic hub. Earlier, its corporate headquarters was in Montparnasse in Paris and was located on the grounds of Charles De Gaulle airport in the northern part of Paris.
Air France was formed in 1933. It was formed by merging a few eminent companies line Air Orient,Air Union,Compagnie Générale Aéropostale,Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne and Société Générale de Transport Aérien (SGTA).At the time of the cold war that ranged from 1950 till 1990 it was known to be one of the leading scheduled aircraft carriers that operated in Germany from West Berlin’s Tempelhof and Tegel airports. Later in the early 90’s, the merged with the French Domestic carrier Air Inter and International airlines- Union De transports Aeriens. Before its merger with KLM in 2003 , for as long as 7 decades it was considered as France’s main and primary national carrier.
In the beginning of the 20th century the airlines was in news or carrying as many as 43.3 million passengers and also for the revenue earned by them. In the year 2004, Air France was tagged as the largest European airline which held a little less than 26 % of the total market share. They were also the world’s largest airline as per the operating revenue.
Air France is known to have a big fleet of aircrafts that is a mix of Airbus and Boing wide body jets. These jets are used on long haul routes and the Airbus A320 aircraft is used for short trips. They also introduced A 380 in 2009 that flew from New York to Paris. Their regional airline subsidiary is HOP! That basically operates in regional domestic level with one way flights and round trip flights. The European Services have a fleet of regional jet aircrafts.
Air France’s United States offices are in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. They had leased the building in 1991. This place was earlier used as a ticket counter at Air France. They also have another head office that deals with their United Kingdom and Ireland Operations. This is located at the Plesman House in Hatton Cross. Their crew base is located at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. This was formed and opened in 2006. They also have a frequent flyer program called Flying Blue.
