Is it the black sheep of Texas or the trendiest city in the lone star state? Either way, you know it is difficult to define this city. You can make up your mind as you go through our one stop guide to a quick 24-hour stroll through the “Big D”.

Less of a Wild Wild West ethos and more of a cosmopolitan, corporate charm to it, Dallas will wow you with its over the top persona as you make your way through the highlights of the dazzling city.

Uptown

There are no natural wonders here, but you can begin your day at the Klyde Warren Park on the highway and an urban design wonder. Of course, get your cup of Joe from any of the many coffee places like Southwest Porch, Ascension Coffee or Yolk. The caffeine boost will help you enjoy the marvels of the park.

Downtown

The Dallas Arts District is a huge part of your itinerary. It is the cultural hotspot of the city, including visual and performing arts. Start by visiting the sprawling Winspear Opera House and Dallas Museum of Art’s comprehensive collection of crafts spanning centuries. Plus, there’s Nasher Sculpture Center’s contemporary take, The Meyerson Symphony Center, and the Crow Collection of Asian Art. You can also pick from one of any these amazing artistic establishments to spend your afternoon in leisurely meditation.

JFK Assassination and Museum Tour

Most visitors to Dallas make their way to this moment in American history when a presidential assassination became a part of urban myths. Get a historical tour to Grassy Knoll and the JFK Memorial, which includes the site of the shooting. Make sure you get help from a guide to get the facts and not get muddled with conspiracy theories of the fateful day and its aftermath. You can also witness the Lee Harvey Oswald Rooming House if you are a real history maniac.

Nature walk

If you are more of a nature kid, then beat a trail to the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve. You can have a satisfying eight-mile hike or ride your bike through a mountain biking trail. True to the Dallas spirit, there are spots amidst these rolling meadows where you might run into ceramic hybrid animals or a metal spider. On that note, if you are a pet person, get your dog along for a solitary walk in the middle of all this urban chaos.

Deep Ellum

Last but not the least for all you music buffs out there, Deep Ellum is the precious historical neighborhood with a rich blues heritage. Some oft quoted names are Blind Lemon Jefferson, Bessie Smith, Bill Neely et al. It had disappeared with the expressway built in the 1950s. Now a thriving spot of alternative culture, it has over 30 live music venues. You can choose from the amazing number of domino parlors, cafes and nightclubs here. Or come in time for the Deep Ellum Arts Festival.
